Scientists Khalid Alsubai, Zlatan I. Tsvetanov et.al  have reported the discovery of a new transiting exoplanet, named as Qatar-6b observed and identified by the Qatar Exoplanet Survey (QES). The planet is orbiting a star having an orbital period of 3.506 days.

An exoplanet, also known as extrasolar planet is a planet which is located outside our solar system that orbits a star. There are 3726 Exoplanets confirmed so far. Qatar-6b will be the 3727th one.

They have used the technology of multi-color photometric light curves to show that the transit is grazing, making Qatar-6b one of the few exoplanets known in a grazing transit configuration.

The study is approved by The Astronomical Journal of IOP Publishing,UK. It is scheduled to be published in the February edition of the journal.
